Should They Break Up?

Now, onto this week’s question…

Hi Didi,

My friend wants to break up with her boyfriend but he won’t let her go.

They’ve both cheated on each other, its only when she came clean that he decided to tell her too.

Now she wants to ends things with him but he believes they should stay together and work it out.

Do you think that they should?

Hi Carol,

This sounds like a toxic relationship, clearly neither person loves the other. It’s probably just a matter of convenience or fear that they may not find anything ‘better’.

My advice is if there isn’t any love there, then its time to call it quits. I’m sure you don’t want to sit by and watch your friend waste away years of her life in an unhappy relationship, just because it was easy.

He may say that he still loves her but she is saying the opposite. He probably feels “Well she cheated on me too so it’s okay.” Nobody should expect a relationship to work based on that theory.

It might be best if this couple end the relationship and start over with someone new.
